Installation Guidelines by Product Type

Product-specific best practices for optimal performance

Shaped Refractories (Bricks)
  • Clean substrate surface before installation
  • Use recommended mortar thickness (1-3mm typically)
  • Maintain proper expansion joints per drawings
  • Stagger joints in multi-layer installations
  • Allow proper curing before heat-up
  • Follow controlled heat-up schedule (50-100°C/hr)
Castables & Monolithics
  • Use correct water ratio (check TDS - typically 5-8%)
  • Mix in paddle mixer, not drum mixer
  • Vibrate thoroughly to remove air pockets
  • Cure minimum 24 hours before form removal
  • Air dry 24-48 hrs before controlled heat-up
  • Hold at 110°C, 350°C, 600°C during dry-out
Gunning & Ramming
  • Clean and prepare substrate (remove loose material)
  • Maintain proper nozzle distance (0.5-1m)
  • Apply in 25-50mm layers for gunning
  • Ram in 50-75mm layers with pneumatic rammers
  • Minimize rebound material (target <15%)
  • Sinter in place with controlled heat-up
Ceramic Fiber & Insulation
  • Wear PPE (mask, gloves) when handling fiber
  • Compress modules 10-15% during installation
  • Overlap blanket edges 50-100mm
  • Use appropriate anchoring system (studs, clips)
  • Seal joints with ceramic fiber paper
